Cylinder Head Port Design
In order to maximize volumetric efficiency it is imperative that the cylinder head port is designed
for maximum flow potential. There are several intricate variables involved in developing a proper
port design. Headway Performance conducts a tremendous amount of research and development
to ensure that your cylinder head will be as efficient as possible for your particular application.
Our Port Design Services Covers The Following:
-Correct Valve Size
-Differences in Valve Seat Angles
-Proper Port Sizing
-Valve Seat Mapping
-Port Mapping
-Wet Flow
-Mixture Motion
-CFM per Square Inch & Flow Coefficiency

Camshaft Design
In order to maximize the volumetric efficiency of an engine, it is imperative to have a set of
camshafts developed to take full advantage of the flow characteristics of your cylinder head.
Factory camshafts are designed to operate within normal street operation parameters; as a
result, when modifying the cylinder head to improve flow characteristics the engine will be choked
due to the camshafts design. VMAX Engineering can custom develop camshaft profiles to take
full advantage of your cylinder head's flow characteristics and fit your application's requirements.

Duration
Lift
Velocity

Cylinder Head Valve Jobs
The valve job plays a significant role in your cylinder head's performance. The quality
and precision of the valve seat geometry will determine how well the valve seals
against gas pressure, how fast the heat transfers away from the valve head, and the rate
at which the mating surface will wear during operation. Aside from the thermomechanical
factors, the valve seat geometry significantly influences the gas flow behavior in a
critical area for the gas exchange process. Continuous development using air flow rugs
and engine dynamometers has shown that real gains can be achieved by paying careful
attention to this area. The venturi area is responsible for approximately 35%
to 40% of the port flow.

Valve Spring Testing
We inspect every spring for accuracy and consistency, we also erase sharp edges
to prevent premature failure and to avoid damage to the retainers.
Our Valve Spring Tester:
- Finds Installed Heights for desired Seat Pressures
- Displays Seat and Nose Spring Pressures
- Displays clearance before Coil Bind
- Measures Spring Rates
- Compensates for Retainer or Spacer Thickness
- Records, Dates, and Labels every Spring Measurement
- Prints Cylinder Head Assembly From All Measurements
- Allows Quick Comparison of New and Used Springs
- Generates Spring Lift Pressure Curve with Overlays
